The Wedding

As most of you know (how could you not?) my youngest step daughter got married this past Friday.   The day was perfect (with the exception of my new son-in-law’s stepmother pulling a nutty), the dinner was fabulous, the cake was Yummo, the Bride was BEAUTIFUL (an understatement) and the absolute best part was one simple line (besides the Bride and Groom saying “I Do!”)

According to the original plan, when asked “who gives this woman to be married?” Richard was supposed to answer “her parents and I do.”

But Richard’s ex-wife wanted something else…something more personal.  When she caught up with me and her daughter at the salon the day OF the wedding she suggested something that really just touched my heart and still gets me teary eyed.  And my step daughter agreed.

So when Richard was officially asked, “who gives this woman to be married?”

He responded, “Her MotherS and I do.”

(pass me a tissue please…)

  1. Absolutely beautiful! My gosh… All of you. I’m so glad it was a good day with only one slightly nutty person/incident. (There’s always one, isn’t there?!)

That cake reminded me of my friend’s second wedding. A couple weeks before he was married, he emailed and said that he and his wife-to-be had an argument about the very expensive cake she wanted. Apparently she wanted to spend close to a $1,000 on one, which he thought was ludicrous (considering there would only be 60 people at the event). She kept going on and on about how great the cake was, and how important to her it was, etc. He emailed me and being the funny guy that he is said something like, “I don’t think she wants to marry me… I think she just wants to marry cake!” Funnier still, at the reception as she tried to do the “cutting into the cake” photo, she couldn’t get through all the expensive, thick fondant that was on there. It was actually quite a scene and rather amusing!

So glad the day was great, Peggy!

    • You know Megan – I can’t imagine paying $1000 for a cake…you eat the darn thing and then what?

As it was, the bride’s former step dad offered to pay for the cake, so I asked my cousin what a cake like that would go for and she told me $1,000! But that’s with fondant. So, we nixed the fondant (yucko) and went with butter cream frosting (yummo!) and she said “for you, $500!”

My cousin is making my oldest daughter’s wedding cake as her gift to her. I get more cake in 6 weeks :-)

  2. Oh Gosh, I LOVE a good wedding! Photos are wonderful and I’m sure in person I would be all over that cake!!! Whatever hand you had in the planning, congrats! Sounds like it was all delightful!

  3. My cousin made the cake! My hands were all over that cake before it got put together…and we went with butter cream frosting because fondant tastes gross.

It’s nice being connected to the wedding cake maker! (she brings me extra cake and extra frosting!)
