Autum’s Last Hoorah

Last Sunday was a glorious “do nothing” day for me.  Sometimes doing nothing means letting whatever seems like a good idea of doing worth doing.  The sun was bright, the sky was bluer than blue and the leaves on the trees were calling me.  Somehow I knew it would be the last picture perfect day to capture the brilliant yellows, reds and oranges of fall in my little town of Derry, NH.  I’m glad I listened.

  1. Thank you for these photos! Last week I could still see the colors here – this week the rain has brought down all the leaves. It was refreshing to see these – indeed, the last hurrah! Seasons change. My clothes are changing. I’m off now to wonder what else? Hmmm………

    • You’re so welcome! Six days later and the leaves are brown and the trees are nearly bare…so glad I listened to the voice that said “go take pictures!”

  2. Mmm, I love autumn in New England and for that reason alone, will probably always live in the Northeast. What great pictures! Sunday, which was my birthday, was a stellar fall day here, too. Part of my birthday wish list was to walk around my favorite village, crunching through the leaves and enjoying the crisp afternoon sun-warmed air. Brilliant!

    • Hi Megan – between summer and the gorgeousness of fall, it’s why I haven’t moved yet…I’m a home town New England girl but the winters are killer…it just gets too cold here!

Happy Birthday to you! I love celebrating them and today I honor you and your life! It’s a blessing to know you!!

  3. Hi Peggy,

Just lovely. Hard to believe that November will begin on Sunday and that the stores already have Christmas stuff out. I am sad to see the leaves go but it is a great reminder about the cycle of rebirth. Things blossom, then fall away and begin all over again. Isn’t life just awesome? :)

    • Hi Nadia – Driving around town this morning it’s hard to believe that I took these pictures just SIX days ago! I’m sad to see the brilliant colors disappear and the rest that are still hanging on turn to faded browns…only to return again in the splendor of spring!

I look forward to the rebirth!

  4. Don’t you just LOVE the fall! Our trees here in northern Michigan, which looks a lot like Vermont, are loosing all their leaves all at once. But they lasted pretty long this year. I LOVE your photos and captions! What a joyful post! xo

  5. These are lovely shots of fall. Thanks for sharing.
We are losing so many leaves around here – the ground is a carpet of colours! Beautiful tho.

  6. Hola Peggy,

I just found you from Angelia’s blogsite. How BEAUtiful these photos are!! I envy people who get to see real seasons. I’m in Florida and we only have hot, real hot, and Africa hot. But the winters are nice. :)

Hey and I just noticed your side bar about Daniel Pink! We had to read his book at school (I’m a teacher) and loved it. Happily, I do most of the things he suggests with my little whippersnappers.

    • Hi HBG! I’m so glad you found me through Angelia! I can usually be found in Florida in March…after I’ve had enough of the frigid winter and I need SUNSHINE and lots of it!

  7. Oh I love autumn, and I certainly miss the change of seasons here in So CA! I was raised in upstate NY and what I miss most are the fall leaves, the cold bite in the air, and the huge apple trees with tons of apples ripe to pick and eat.
Do nothing days are the best treat–glad you enjoyed yours:)

  8. Lovely photos. I love fall but in AZ it’s just not the same! I won’t complain though because I love the consistent blue skies and sun. It makes photos all the more meaningful to me because I don’t experience it in the flesh. I could go to the mountains but haven’t yet. Someday…thanks for sharing!
