The Pier
One block away
from Hotel Carmel
Hotdogs and crowds
Bubba Gump’s and movie trivia
Amusement park rides and four tickets a piece
The sound of the Pacific Ocean
crashing into wooden pylons
Pigeons flying overhead
Bird shit in my hair
A Walk on the Beach
Feet in the sand
step after step
she opens up
my daughter
with her red hair
pulled back
I can tell
she needs to talk
just finished college
not sure what to do
…indecisive…
she stays in her rut
living at home
waitressing
at the same restaurant
Maybe she’ll teach English
and go to Japan
I love Carmel…..I love Bubbu Gump’s and I *very much* love the Pacific Ocean…and I heard that bird poo is good luck..:)
The connection you share with your daughter is amazing..I am so glad you have this time together!!
Dear Joy,
Believe it or not, I found these poems in my journal…from 2006! Having just spent five days with my daughter in Spain and then finding the poem about her teaching English…well…that’s just what’s she’s doing! Only I got the country wrong =)
Hi Peggy,
These poems are outstanding. It’s like you’re my next door neighbor and I’m laughing my arse off. God are you funny and a fantastic writer. xo
Thanks Tess! =) I’m getting over feeling weird about my poems. They flow up from nowhere, sometimes they get lost in my journals, but eventually I do my “job” and get them out!
